For specific and immediate job opportunities within NAMG, please refer to "Career Opportunities".

If you have skills and experience that may fit within NAMG's core business units, and would like to introduce yourself to NAMG for future reference, take a look at the primary departmental roles below. This summary does not include every NAMG department, nor does it include every job function, but it provides a thorough review of our operating departments and the primary roles within the company.

North American Media Group, a subsidiary of NAMG, publishes ten consumer magazines and produces three television shows on ESPN2 and The Outdoor Channel. All of them feature advertising from the leading companies in their respective markets. It’s the job of the Advertising Sales department to generate those ads.

NAMG uses in-house, employee sales personnel who work out of either the Minneapolis (headquarters), Chicago or New York City sales offices as well as using several different independent sales representatives. Calling on client and advertising agencies, sales personnel identify wants and needs of clients and then package sales opportunities using our inventory of magazines, TV, Internet, Events and merchandising to provide solutions for these advertisers.

Account Executives use a variety of tools and techniques. All of our sales staff travel to meet with clients face-to-face at their business offices or trade shows and stay in touch by phone, fax or email on a daily basis. The ad sales team also works closely with our Marketing department to develop new sales and promotional material that aid the selling process. This combination of sales and marketing teamwork has helped NAMG create some of the most highly regarded special interest magazines available today -- several of which are ad page leaders in their respective markets.

The Art department is the primary group responsible for the design and production of each of our club magazines. Designing each of the magazines includes developing the initial idea or concept then working with the editorial staff to achieve that idea. Artists routinely direct or produce photography and illustrations used within the magazines.

Using state-of-the-art equipment and processes we are capable of producing most of the magazines with only in-house resources. Ultimately, everything in the magazines is developed into a digital format using our sophisticated color scanning capabilities and our industry leading raster image processing (RIP) equipment. It is then delivered electronically to our printer and burned directly to the printing plates.

In addition to our work on the magazines, the Art department is often called upon to create materials to support advertising in our magazines. This includes various promotions; Media Kits, Trade show materials and other value added advertising support. Our highly trained and professional staff is also frequently asked by virtually every other department within the company to provide graphics support, including posters, vehicle graphics, file format conversions, color scanning and downloading magazine files.

Our department’s name says it all – we develop books! A book starts as an idea – often from Book Development staff, but sometimes the idea will come from a marketing need: members are asking for or needing a book on a certain topic.

Once approved, the first stage is outlining the book – coming up with a clear and concise plan of what it will be. Then an author is contracted – an expert in the subject matter who writes the text. Photographs are bought or created as the words are edited and formatted into a book-ready package. The final words and pictures come together in design, and then the book is edited/proofed further, massaged and fine-tuned into the final product.

We release that final product electronically, and printing plates are created directly from the electronic files. The finished, printed books are then shipped to our warehouse, where they are shipped to Club members. We manage this production of the books from Book Development too.

Talented coordinators shepherd the book through the entire process. They work with many people at every stage of the process. Designers are integral. We hire some design work outside, but the bulk of our work is completed by in-house professionals. Photo editors are key, support staff handle a wide range of responsibilities, and topic specialists help round out the content.

Book Development creates successful products that cater to the interests of all our Club members – Hunting, Fishing, Gardening, Cooking, Home Improvement, Golf, Health & Wellness, Creative Home Arts, The History Club, Street Machines and any new club topics that NAMG will add to its lineup.

The NAMG Editorial department is actually comprised of separate staffs for each of the company’s Clubs and respective magazines. They are all supported by a central magazine production staff which is also part of the department.

Unlike traditional magazines, the individual editorial teams are considered to be the “soul center” for each Club. The members of NAMG Clubs are passionate about their lifestyle whether that’s hunting, gardening, health and wellness, etc.... Each member of each editorial staff shares or exceeds that level of passion. Many of the staff members are recognized by both members and the industry as true experts in their fields.

In the case of North American Hunter and North American Fisherman magazines, the editors double as hosts of the company’s ESPN television productions. This serves to further publicize their respective clubs and magazines.

The NAMG magazines contract with the country’s top freelance writers and photographers for magazine material, but continue to provide tremendous opportunity for club members to contribute content. This is part of the “Club Difference” which sets our magazines apart.

The magazine production team has decades of combined experience in the logistics of producing high quality publications, and keeps NAMG publications on the cutting edge of pre-press, printing and distribution efficiencies. The tandem effort of the editors and the production staff result in magazines that annually earn local, regional and national awards for content and design.

All NAMG incoming mail is processed through the Remittance Processing (RP) department. RP is split into two areas, the Mail/Machine Room and Data Entry.

The Mail/Machine Room processes all incoming mail, new member applications, payments, etc. Mail is opened and sorted by advanced extracting equipment. Everything is then sorted and processed according to each club and type of mail. Certain types of work are processed on a high-speed processor, such as new memberships and payments. This information is uploaded daily to ensure timely service for our members, along with daily deposits for payments. Everything else is then routed to the appropriate departments.

Some of the incoming mail can not go through the high-speed processor due to special handling requirements. This mail is then sent to Data Entry to be manually processed. This includes specific member requests, such as payments, product orders, benefit requests, check-by-phone payments, life member applications, etc. This information is uploaded into our computer system daily to ensure a rapid response and timely fulfillment of orders.
